Who am I?
Brett Hanavan is a writer, photographer, and filmmaker.
He is former owner/editor of San Diego Sports Voices and most recently contributes to the San Diego Community Newspaper Group as a freelance journalist. In his time with the newspaper he has written stories covering the San Diego Chargers, Padres and Sockers and continues to focus on coverage of business, education, medical research and occasionally produces features and provides sports coverage to the organizations several publications.
He was co-producer/co-director of independent films Death of a Healer, released June 2005 and
Clean Up, Aisle 3 released in 2004. He co-wrote Clean Up Aisle 3 with business partner Tom Bennett and has also produced a children’s television pilot (On the Shanna Show) with business partner Shanna Stanton. Hanavan also continues to work on screenwriting and film and video projects. He is also a poet and freelance photographer.
Hanavan has contributed to several publications including Insurance Journal, Rough Notes Magazine, various web sites and newspapers.
Hanavan and Bennett continue to operate ForeSolutions, a St. Louis-based communication and production company. Clean Up Aisle 3, produced under their former company 80,0002B, appeared in the 2003 Wilmington International Film Festival.
He works from his home office/studio in the suburbs of Southern California.
Hanavan also has more than 12 years of insurance industry experience in California.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from the University of Tulsa and a minor in Marketing. He is married to Sherrianne; a commercial liability claims manager; They have a nine-year-old daughter.

San Diego Padres acquire pitcher Baek posted on 06/05/2008

The San Diego Padres today acquired right-handed pitcher Cha Seung Baek from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-hander Jared Wells.Baek, who turns 28 tomorrow, appeared in 10 games (one start) for the Mariners this season, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (18 ER/30.0 IP) before he was designated for assignment on May 21. Born in Pusan, Korea and originally signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent on September 25, 1998, Baek is 10-9 with a 4.96 ERA (93 ER/168.2 IP) in 37 career Major League games (24 starts) over parts of four seasons with the Mariners (2004, 2006-08). He has compiled 107 strikeouts compared to 51 walks. Cha (chow) Seung (sung) Baek (beck) will join the Padres today and be active for tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Cooper to be suspended for San Diego Chargers posted on 05/28/2008

The San Diego Chargers were notified today by the National Football League that linebacker Stephen Cooper will miss the first four regular-season games of 2008 for violating the NFL policy on Steroids and Related Substances.
The following statement was issued today by an NFL spokesperson: Stephen Cooper of the San Diego Chargers has been suspended without pay for the team’s first four regular-season games of 2008 for violating the NFL Policy on Steroids and Related Substances.
Cooper's suspension begins on Saturday, August 30. He is eligible to return to the Chargers’ active roster on Monday, September 29 following the team’s September 28 game against the Oakland Raiders. Cooper is eligible to participate in the team’s off-season program and in all preseason practices and games.

May 12, 2008 – Padres Bloggers: I’m still behind so this is my one-stop effort to get Padres release information up-to-date. Obviously they are off to a rough start and going into today have the worst record in baseball at 14-24 (.368).
Here is the stuff that matters from April 15 to date:
May 12, 2008 -- The San Diego Padres announced that they have purchased the contract of infielder Edgar Gonzalez from Triple-A Portland and have designated infielder Callix Crabbe for assignment.
Gonzalez, 29, was invited to Major League Spring Training with San Diego before being reassigned to minor league camp on March 18. He hit .293 (24-for-82) with a double, four home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in 27 games for Triple-A Portland. With the Beavers, Gonzalez appeared in games at first base, second base, third base, left field, right field and designated hitter. Over parts of nine minor league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2000-03), Texas Rangers (2004), Washington Nationals (2005), Florida Marlins (2006), St. Louis Cardinals (2007) and Padres (2008), he has a career .297 (901-for-3037) batting average with 206 doubles, 29 triples, 64 home runs, 419 RBI and 434 runs scored. Gonzalez is the older brother of Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

San Diego Padres place Barrett on D.L. posted on 05/05/2008
April 8, 2008 – From San Diego Padres press release:
The San Diego Padres today placed catcher Michael Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his right elbow and recalled catcher Colt Morton from Double-A San Antonio. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.Barrett, 31, suffered the injury in Monday’s win at San Francisco. He is 2-for-8 with three runs scored and two walks in three games this season. In 1,020 Major League games with the Montreal Expos (1998-2003), Chicago Cubs (2004-2007) and Padres (2007-2008), Barrett has a career average of .266 (905-for-3,408) with 217 doubles, 21 triples, 95 home runs, 413 RBI, 389 runs and 271 walks.
Morton, who turns 26 on Thursday, is 3-for-12 with one double, two RBI and one walk in four games with San Antonio. He made one appearance for the Padres in 2007, making his Major League debut on September 21 vs. Colorado as a pinch-hitter. His contract was purchased from San Antonio on September 5, 2007. Morton hit .200 (3-for-15) with one home run, four RBI, three runs and one walk in 11 Spring Training games with the Padres this year.
